A BUSY SUMMER OF INTERNSHIPS IN THE LEUCHT LAB! – June 2022

Over the summer of 2022, the Leucht lab hosted 4 students; Sriya Dodda, Mahfuza Alam (Clear Direction Mentoring program: https://cleardirectionmentoring.org/), Ilana Livshits, and Elianna Nazginov. The students had a lot of fun learning all about bone biology, cell culture, and histology and we can’t wait to see what they do in the future!

MALISSA RAMSUKH WAS AWARDED AN NIH DIVERSITY SUPPLEMENT! June 2021-2023

Malissa was awarded an NIH Diversity Supplement awardee from 2021 to 2023. This award is for individuals who are from ethnic and racial backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in science and medicine. She is currently being supported by this grant during her two years in the lab as a research assistant. More information about the diversity supplement can be found here:

Leucht Lab awarded $225,000 from the Lisa Dean Moseley Foundation

Congratulations to the lab who has received an award of $225,000 for 2 years from the Lisa Dean Moseley Foundation for their proposed research on cellular therapy for knee osteoarthritis.

Stem cell therapy is a rapidly evolving treatment for osteoarthritis that has been employed despite proper evidence to support its application. There is a paucity of high-level evidence publications supporting stem cell use for early osteoarthritis and although stem cell therapy has largely been shown to be safe, the literature has not provided a cohesive understanding of patient and cellular characteristics that predict stem cell therapy success. This study will finally demonstrate whether treatment success can be predicted by surveying the interaction between the stem cells and the joint cytokine environment on a cellular and molecular level.
